BI-LO Introduces Easy Way to Save on Gas with the Launch of
My BI-LO BONUSCARD with fuelperks!
Charleston area consumers now have a way to roll back gas prices by simply purchasing groceries as they normally do
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 1, 2008) -- BI-LO today is launching a new generation loyalty program, My BI-LO BONUSCARD with fuelperks!, which will enable Charleston area residents to save money on gas by doing something they normally do - buy groceries. Beginning today, every time BI-LO customers make a purchase with their new My BI-LO BONUSCARD they are gaining power at the pump.
fuelperks! represents a completely new way for saving money on gas in the Charleston area, and it's very simple to use. For every $50 a shopper spends at BI-LO, they receive a five cent per gallon reward applied to their new My BI-LO BONUSCARD. The $50 threshold can be achieved through multiple visits to BI-LO; it is all tracked automatically (and immediately in "real time") through the new My BI-LO BONUSCARD. For instance, if a shopper spends $20 on one trip to BI-LO and $40 on the next trip, he or she will obtain a five cent per gallon reward (for the first $50 spent) plus $10 toward the next five cent reward.
The rewards are stackable. For instance, if the shopper and his or her family spend $200 over the course of several weeks or in one visit, they accumulate a 20 cent per gallon reward. Customers redeem their earned discount by swiping their full-size My BI-LO BONUSCARD in the card reader at any one of 23 local participating Sunoco stations. The price per gallon will automatically roll down by the amount of fuelperks!rewards earned on all grades (up to 20 gallons per visit) of Sunoco gasoline, the official fuel of NASCAR. A total of 17 BI-LO stores in the Charleston area and Hartsville are participating in this first-of-its-kind program for this region.
"The fuelperks! program is a valuable addition to our ongoing efforts to help consumers save money." said BI-LO Executive Vice President Tye Anthony. "Our customers can continue to rely on BI-LO for every day grocery savings with their new My BI-LO BONUSCARD, and now there's the added bonus of saving on gas as well."
Anthony added, "One of the great features of fuelperks! is how easy it is to use. Customers simply buy groceries using their new My BI-LO BONUSCARD. Then they swipe the card at the Sunoco pump and enjoy watching the price of their gas roll down."
BI-LO is working with Excentus, the provider of fuelperks!, to launch the program in the Charleston area. BI-LO officials said Sunoco is the ideal fuel partner for fuelperks!, with its number of locations across the area (many in close proximity to BI-LO stores), focus on technology and commitment to quality. BI-LO will be the only grocery store chain to have fuelperks! in the Charleston area, according to Excentus officials.
BI-LO customers will need the new My BI-LO BONUSCARD to redeem fuelperks!. Converting to the new card is free and easy, requiring a quick stop at a BI-LO store to have their old card scanned; all existing data will be retained in the new card. It will also be very easy for shoppers new to BI-LO to get a My BI-LO BONUSCARD.
BI-LO shoppers will continue to enjoy everyday savings with their My BI-LO BONUSCARD and will be able to take advantage of other popular BI-LO customer appreciation programs such as FREE turkey at Thanksgiving, Senior Bonus and boostersplus - all with the added bonus of gas savings.
Anthony said the introduction of My BI-LO BONUSCARD with fuelperks! in the Charleston area (the first BI-LO market to have this program) represents BI-LO's continuing commitment and investment in the local area, which includes the new Super BI-LO in Hanahan that opened in August and the opening of a new Super BI-LO on James Island in late October.
"We're very proud to be introducing this exciting program in the Charleston area and are thrilled that we can now help our customers save on gas while providing them the same great value on groceries," Anthony said. "We've worked hard to lower our operating costs in the past year or two through various green initiatives and supply chain efficiencies, and we're passing these savings on to our customers through fuelperks!."
